Italian lighting producer Foscarini is founded in 1981 on the island of Murano , a part of Venice. In the early 80’s, Foscarini creates lighting solutions for the contract sector.

Two years later, Foscarini moves to the private market by launching their first catalogue collection of designer lamps and things start to move quickly for the small, Italian company.

In 1988, after becoming an important player in the industry, the ownership moves to the two designers Alessandro Vecchiato and Carlo Urbinati , the latter being the sole president of Foscarini today.

In 1990, a breakthrough happens, when Rodolfo Dordoni designs the ever classical and iconic Lumiere table lamp . Made from Murano Glass , with a distinctive look and feel, the Lumiere becomes a remarkable success and puts Foscarini on the international map.

After enjoying an increasing amount of attention, Foscarini makes another breakthrough, with the Havana floor lamp , designed by Jozeph Forakis .

This is the first lamp presented by the brand, that is not made from glass. Instead, the shades are made from Polythylene . This will prove to be one of the most popular designer floor lamps, in Europe, for many years.

Modern and contemporary lamps from Foscarini

After initially working with handmade glass, Foscarini adapts to the new industrial standards, and quickly becomes pioneers in innovating the new possibilities with plastic that dominated the design world in the 90’s and 00’s.

A great example of this, is the wonderful Caboche lamp , designed by Patricia Urquiola and Eliana Gerotto in 2005. This lamp, made from a large set of transparent, acrylic balls has a luscious and impressive feel that takes the European market by storm.

Another example of an innovative lamp from polycarbonate is the Bahia wall lamp , designed by Lucidi & Pevere, who also designed the popular Aplomb lamp .

The Bahia is a simple set of three plastic screens that has an evocative and simple feel, when it turns on. This interplay between shadows and light, has proved to be a very popular choice from Foscarini .

The Gregg series is introduced by the renowned design duo from Milano, Ludovica & Roberto Palomba . The Gregg lamps are a series of unshapely, cloudlike lamps that moves the frontier of possibilities with handblown glass .

They follow up the Gregg series, with the new Rituals-series , working with the same special shapes, but now with a rippled, opal glass exterior . These two series prove to be especially popular and Foscarini cements their role as masters of glassmaking, once again.

New 2021 collections from Foscarini

Foscarini never stops innovating and they keep presenting impressive collections with some of the world’s most renowned designers.

They recently launched a new version of the extremely popular Caboche series , with a more distinct and puffy design. The Caboche Plus is taller than the original and introduces a new smoke-grey color to the product line. Additionally, the original colors transparent & gold are still popular choices.

In addition to this new release, Foscarini has teamed up with the talented, Dutch designer Tord Boontje to create a new kind of pendant made from powder coated aluminum and steel.

The Sun Light of Love is the name of this new series and it marks a new style, introduced by Foscarini. This evocative pendant is aptly named, since the many spikes serve to reflect the light like sunrays, throughout the room.

The lamp is available in either white or gold - the white one giving a more clean and bright light and the gold version offering a more warm and ambient reflection.
