Design in Dialogue

Exclusive Interview with Ludovica & Roberto Palomba on the Art of The Gregg Collection, and how light soothes rather than dazzles.

''Our goal is to create elements that discreetly accompany people's daily lives - like silent, loyal companions for those who choose them. We design objects as companions of the soul - pieces that remain authentic and relevant over time.''

- Ludovica & Roberto Palomba

The inspiration behind Gregg

The Gregg Collection is a collection that is made from the iconic material: Murano blown glass. Not only is the collection one of the best sellers from the Italian brand Foscarini, it is also a collection born from the desire to reinterpret glass in a new way. When the design duo shared their vision, Foscarini immediately embraced it — giving life to a collection that now illuminates homes around the world.

From concept to craft

Gregg’s distinctive shape wasn’t easy to achieve. “When we first envisioned the lamp, the technology didn’t exist to make the mold,” the designers recall. “Only later, with the development of 3D software, could we finally bring it to life.”

So what inspired them to make a lamp in a form that didn't exist yet?: Dragon eggs - “Organic, mythical, mysterious objects. That is what Gregg is - familiar, yet impossible to define.”

How Does the Gregg Collection Enhance Small Living Spaces?

The Palombas use Gregg in their own homes - from the bedroom to a rooftop in Salento, where it resembles “a full moon.” Often, they hide the floor lamp version behind curtains, letting it cast a theatrical, diffused glow. “We don’t like symmetry,” they add, “so Gregg always stands in its own space.” The tip of hiding the lamp behind a curtain and yet let it glows through adds more depth to the room, you a get feeling of a fuller space, and makes your smaller home become a cozy hide away.

The Gregg Collection includes both indoor and outdoor pieces

You can mix and match different sizes and styles within the Gregg Collection to suit your space — especially ideal for small living areas where every detail counts. Whether you place the same lamp in various rooms or style different versions in one space, the cohesive look helps tie everything together and makes your home feel thoughtfully curated.

In smaller spaces, layering multiple light sources is key. By combining soft shadows and highlighted areas, you add depth and dimension - making the room feel larger, more welcoming, and visually balanced. It’s not just about aesthetics; good lighting also enhances your comfort and overall well-being.

A tip for choosing the right light

So, how should we think about lighting in our own homes? Their advice is simple: “Seek out a warm and welcoming glow. Let your lamp be a presence - something that feels good even when it’s off.” Whether it’s a statement piece like Gregg or a hidden light that brings a quiet corner to life, the choice should always be about atmosphere.
