GUBI Stemlite Table Lamp Dimmable Small Black Chrome

Design: Stemlite designed by Bill Curry, 1962

Concept: The idea behind the design for Stemlite, was based on a hope from Bill Curry's side to be able to change the norms for lamp design. He wanted to create a lamp that did not consist of the, at the time, otherwise so traditional base, bulb, shade construction. Curry wanted to create a lamp that combined the three components into an organic, colorful lamp. That desire resulted in the first '' Total look '' lamp, Stemlite .
The design draws inspiration from flowers which, with their strong but thin stems, can hold a heavy flower head upright. This can also be seen on the metal base which mimics the stems of a tulip. Via the mouth-blown glass ball on top, Stemlite issues a calm and pleasantly diffused light.

Stemlite was Bill Curry's best-selling collection, and was also used to present American design in the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, and Iraq in the 1960s. Stemlite has been brought back to life by GUBI, to reintroduce the world to Bill Curry's amazing work.
