ITALIAN INSPIRATION
Through the times, Italy has brought some of the most amazing and innovative lighting brands in to existence. For generations, passion and precision have created a long and proud history of Italian lighting design. Brands like
FLOS
, NEMO and
Foscarini
have been essential for progress and development in the industry and manages to continuously create products with decadence and timelessness in mind.
The fascination of Italian design is never-ending and especially in Scandinavia, the Italian brands have become extremely popular in recent years. But it’s not only the large, established design houses that have interesting lamps to offer. Here at Andlight we want to show you some smaller and lesser known Italian brands, that you might not have heard of. In this article, we will introduce you to the most interesting, small brands from Italy and their most beautiful creations.
RestartMilano is a brand that works with timeless and classic Italian design, though their products are rawer and industrial than traditional Italian brands. They use typical Italian materials like brass and marble, but still, the look is different and unique. For example, their
table lamp
is formed in brass with a big, visible LED bulb. This reminds you of the
FLOS IC-series
, yet with a much less polished look and an industrial feel.
The same goes for the
floor lamp
, still kept in brass and with a cylinder light on the angle. Even though the lamp is beautifully elegant, it still brings the industrial look with the unpolished brass.
Another interesting lamp is
Stargate
. This lamp is a square frame with light, standing on a black marble foot. A cylinder LED delivers a warm light that is reflected in the dark marble. Of course, the light is dimmable which makes this lamp perfect for reading table in the living room or behind your laptop in the office.
Studio Italia is a respected and tradition based brand, established in Venice in 1950. Even though the lamps are not well known everywhere, Studio Italia is still a very renowned and proven brand.
The brand offers the
Kelly-series
which is a collection of silhouette lamps. Especially the
Kelly Sphere
pendant is an impressive and beautiful lamp, available in copper or matte white. This lamp delivers a beautiful light and has a fascinating structure.
Another beautiful installation from the brand is the
Skyfall pendant
. The lamp is shaped in dark glass and has a downwards facing LED on the bottom. A small upwards facing lamp creates a beautiful illusion inside the glass lamp, while the dark glass is reflecting the room around it. This lamp is an example of simple and elegant design, fascinating anyone moving through the room.
FABBIAN
Fabbian was established in 1961 and has been a symbol of quality ever since. All of the production is kept in-house, which allows quality testing and refinement.
The series offered by Fabbian are very different from each other, but always decadent and eye-catching. The Vicky-series are lamps made from clear and matte glass, with beautiful ornamentations on the surface. Beautiful flowers are carved in the glass, leaving an icy look and feel. These lamps are very delicate and beautiful, but not particularly minimalistic. If you like ornamentations and the decadent look, this series will go beautifully in a bathroom, the hall or a living room with the right interior.
Moving back to classic, Italian design, Fabbian offers the table lamp Armilla F50. On this lamp, they have created a frame of metal threads, fixed in a dome that is filled with white glass. This gives an illusion of a glass ball trapped between tight, metal threads. The dome is fixed on a shiny, metal foot, leaving an extremely elegant expression. This lamp is beautiful and classic, made for the living room or your worktable. The lamp is also available as a pendant, if you want to complete the look of the room.
ASTEP
Astep is a company with a young CEO, but a very long tradition. The current owner is the grandchild of internationally renowned designer Gino Sarfatti, who founded the original company Arteluce. Astep is Alessandro Sarfatti’s way of honoring the long history of his father and grandfather, whilst introducing new and interesting designs as well. Many of the designs are recreations of Gino Sarfatti’s ingenious designs from the 50’s and 60’s.
The table lamp Model 548 is a good example of a lamp that has been brought back to life by Astep. The lamp is offered in many colors and uses a small, upwards facing lamp reflecting on the colored screen to create a nice and comfortable light. The expression of this lamp differs with the options of color and the choice between polished or dark brass for the stand. But no matter which combination you choose, this lamp will bring an elegant and retro feel to the room.
The Italian designer Vittoriano Viganó has recently created a more modern collection for the Italian brand. The VV Cinquanta collection offers simple and elegant lamps for every need. The series offer lamps for wall, floor, table and ceiling in bright and vibrant colors. The base is kept in black or brass to honor Italian stylishness. Astep guarantees tradition and renowned design for a fair price.
