Swedese was founded in 1945 by brothers Yngve and Jerker Ekström and Bertil Sjöqvist with the ambition to create beautiful furniture for the future based on Scandinavian design traditions. Since the beginning, the company has focused on uniting aesthetics, function and craftsmanship in furniture that is created to last for generations. Today, Swedese is owned by Anna Johansson and Julio Patino, and production continues to take place in Småland, Sweden, at the factories in Vaggeryd and Äng. Collaboration between designers, product developers and craftsmen is at the heart of Swedese's work. The combination of traditional craft techniques and modern production makes it possible to create furniture where quality and precision go hand in hand. This approach ensures that each piece of furniture retains a unique mark and a clear anchoring in the Scandinavian design heritage. One of the most famous designs is the Lamino armchair from 1956, designed by Yngve Ekström. With its organic shape and natural materials, it has become a symbol of the Swedese philosophy and was named the best Swedish furniture design of the 20th century by Sköna Hem in 1999. |
