In 1964, Verner Panton introduced the Fun series - a collection of lamps with shades made of small, circular seashells in an enchanting mother-of-pearl finish. These shells were carefully arranged in rows with delicate steel rings and hung closely together on an elegant stand in either chrome or brass. The composition of the shells created not only a beautiful but also a unique design language, which was particularly experimented with in the ceiling-mounted versions, where several clusters of lamps hung vertically on the same chain.
Panton was known for more than just challenging the visual expression in his designs. His creations often appealed to all the senses. The shells in the Fun lamps cast light in the most beautiful way, and when moved, they created a pleasant sound as they gently collided with each other.
