In 1951, Japanese-American sculptor and designer Isamu Noguchi began his work creating Akari Light Sculptures. This was a series of unique works, handmade from washi paper, and it evolved to include over 100 light sculptures, including table, floor and ceiling lights. Vitra is now expanding its collection of Akari light sculptures with three new models, adding diversity to the company's already impressive range of over 40 varieties. These new additions include a floor lamp, a table lamp and a ceiling light. Each Akari lamp is meticulously handcrafted at the Ozeki workshop, a traditional, family-run business located in Gifu. This underlines the dedication to craftsmanship and preservation of traditions in the creation of these unique light sculptures.
